Can A Person Fall Away From Grace? Part 1

The Lord is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and great in mercy. And we need to approach Him with confidence and assurance that God is our Father who is slow to anger and rich in mercy. The riches of God’s grace are yet to be revealed and God’s people await with great hope for Christ’s second coming. God’s Word speaks about a great hope after death. God’s amazing grace extends to the whole stretch of eternity!

Yesterday we saw God’s flood of grace which flows wider, deeper, and more powerful than the flood of sin; that comprises salvation, daily mercies, gifts of the Holy Spirit, earthly blessings and this flood will continue to flow through eternity for our God is eternal and so is His amazing grace. Be it here on Earth, or in eternity, we’ll  never run short of God’s grace.

Now many of us would wonder if any person would miss out the abounding grace of God or fall away from grace. The direct answer is shockingly ‘Yes’, but let’s look into the details.

Galatians 5:4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

The believers in Galatia heard the preaching about Christ, they believed and received His grace; but when their spiritual leaders were away some others came up with the teaching that it is important to keep the Mosaic Law in order to be truly saved. The believers were misled and they returned to their old traditions and rituals of the Law which Paul addresses here and angrily says that they’ve fallen away from grace.

Even though God’s amazing grace is  freely available, a person can fall away from grace in their walk of faith; legalism being the first reason where he/ she tries adds on their good works/ merits along with  the finished work of Christ for God’s acceptance and to be a citizen of heaven.

Legalism is the foremost reason for falling away from grace -  when you attempt to be liberated by following the religious laws, you become estranged from Christ and fall away from grace, because self-righteousness promotes the work of man. Always remember, human work is opposite to grace. It’s my heart’s desire that you all would first perceive this truth and encourage all you know who chase karma and traditions to believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

When you run alone, it’s called Race;

But when you run with God, it’s called Grace!

The salvation that comes through the gospel is totally free; and if anyone still rejects this free gift, they’re subjecting themselves to perilous punishment.

Hebrews 6:4-8 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen c away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. 8But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

If anyone turns back to self-righteousness or religious customs after perceiving the gospel of grace and receiving the revelation of Christ, they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and are in danger of severe punishment.

2 Corinthians 11:2,3 - I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
 
Salvation means to embrace/cling to the Savior.

To conclude, one can fall away from God’s amazing grace if they alienate from the gift of salvation that is in Christ, pursue self-righteousness and turn toward legalism.
