Three Basic Blessings
God is always young. There is no ageing in heaven. While God is referred to as ‘the ancient of days’ in the Book of Daniel, it doesn’t mean He is old and aged. It is because there is no ageing in heaven; there is no deterioration. Everyone is in their youth in heaven, it is filled with life!
What is a Real Blessing?
Miracles happen when there is a crisis or a problem situation. But say there is a home that lacks nothing, they have everything they need, they do not require a miracle. On the other hand, if there is a sick person in the home, a miracle is required. God wants to bring us all to the point of great blessing where we do not require miracles. If we cooperate with God, we will receive His blessings in all its fullness. Abraham was blessed in all areas except one. When God blessed him with a child, his blessings became complete.
3 John 1:1-4
“The elder
To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
John was the apostle who lived the longest. He did not become a martyr. He was exiled to the island of Patmos where he wrote the Book of Revelations. He was an elder of a church, and in this book, he writes to his beloved friend Gaius. John prays for Gaius to be blessed by the Lord. He prays for prosperity in all things and for good health. God is not against prosperity but this does not mean only materially.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
John talks about prosperity in three things while praying: all things (earthly), health (physical), soul (spiritual).
He then says how he is joyed when he hears about how Gaius is faithful to the truth. Gaius was a very spiritual and faithful person. John’s greatest joy is knowing that his spiritual children continue to walk in the truth.
His prayer addresses the three key areas of Gaius’ life that he wanted him to experience blessings! This is spiritual, physical and all other things/material things.
There is a misconception that God gives us hardships in order to make us walk in the right path. But God never gives diseases or poverty or problems. If we walk in the truth .i.e if we are a true child of God, God will never initiate problems upon us; however, the devil may.
But if we backslide, God will test us to bring us back. There is a treatment for backsliders.
In Luke 15, the prodigal son did not come back to the father because someone preached the Word to him. It was his situations and hardships that made him realise the blessings he had at his father’s house!
Job was a righteous and blameless man, however, the devil did bring disease and trials into his life; it was not God who brought it upon him. The only reason God allowed this was because he was sure that Job would hold onto the faith even in such situations.
God had faith that Job would not fall when tested but that was not the case with Simon Peter.
Jesus said in Luke 22:31,32 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
Jesus knew Simon Peter would fall, so He prayed for him in advance. God doesn’t allow tests upon everyone. He knows each of our faith and strength levels. God deals with each person differently.
In the same way that John, the elder, prayed for Gaius, we can also pray for these three areas of our lives!
