Baptism With the Holy Spirit And Fire
Christian life should be an experience. It should be our life and it starts when we become a new creation and not just when we say that we believe in Christ or that we are born in a christian family or that we read the Bible and pray daily or do good works etc.
Hebrews 6.2 mentions 'doctrines of baptisms’, the first one being the Holy spirit baptism ( 1 Corinthians 12.13) and the second one is Water Baptism.
The third one is in Matthew 3.11: I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
This is spoken by John the Baptist before he baptised Jesus. During his time, it is the fourth level servants who ties and unties the laces of the sandals of guests. John considered himself to be less than a fourth class servant. When John got the revelation that Jesus was the lamb of God, His perception changed. He then says, He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Here Jesus is the Baptiser and the medium is the Holy Spirit.
In the first one, the Holy Spirit is the Baptiser, the medium is the Word of God and a child of God is born again into the body of Christ. This happens when a person is born again.
In Water baptism, a person is the Baptiser and the medium is water and is joined with Christ.
In the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, where the Baptiser is Jesus, a child of God is prepared for a ministry.
Acts 1.8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
We must know that what is needed for a fruitful ministry is to do it in the power of the Holy Spirit. Without the power of the Spirit, it is of no use.
We see the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2.4 “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Here Jesus is the Baptiser and the medium is the Holy Spirit and the power of the Spirit enables us to do God’s ministry through various spiritual gifts which are imparted for the same.
The fourth baptism is the baptism of fire. A person who has received the first two baptisms are qualified to receive the third one. The fourth one which is the baptism of fire is the higher level fire anointing of the Holy Spirit. Such a person will be a firebrand for Jesus. They will be passionate and zealous for Jesus.
For those who are not born again, this fire is the fire of judgement mentioned in Matthew 3.12, His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
