Adam: The Pattern of Christ – Part 2

Romans 5.12-21
Sin got entry into people all over the world from generation to generation through one man Adam. Sin is an invisible spiritual fact. We cannot see it. The result of sin is death. The first Adam was a pattern of the last Adm who was yet to come. God’s grace overflows through Jesus overcomes the judgement that came through the first Adam
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
Imagine a school football ground where the kids could play anytime and suddenly the Principal of the school brings in a law that kids could play only at specific timings. Now, if the kids play in a time that is not allowed, they are committing a trespass. Before the law came, there was no judgement. But now anyone who trespassed was punished.
21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
There are two reigns : the reign of sin and that of grace. The reign of sin brought death while that of grace brought abundant and eternal life through righteousness. Though the offer is available, it is up to us to choose it. Adam, by his free will chose to eat the forbidden fruit and fell to sin. It is our responsibility to choose grace. We must believe and receive it.
Adam trespassed and through his disobedience, sin entered the world through him. Death followed sin. Through Christ’ obedience, God gave the gift of grace and made us righteous through him. Through Christ grace increased and led to eternal life.
The result of one man Adam’s sin has spread all over generationally. The same is true of us. Whatever we do today has a generational impact.
Hebrews 7.9,10 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
Levi was the priestly tribe who were allowed to collect the tithe from the rest of the tribe. But even before Levi was born, they paid their tithe to Melchizedek, the High Priest, through Abraham who was their ancestor. Levi’s father Jacob was the son of Isaac who was the son of Abraham.
What a parent does whether good or bad affects their generations. What Adam and Eve did affected the entire humanity through many generations.
