Healthy Anger and Unhealthy Anger

A person struggling with depression or anxiety disorder indicates that they’ve been wounded deep in their soul either in their formative years or even after that in the course of life; and panic attack is the most chronic condition amongst anxiety disorders.
Psalm 55:4-8 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far away
and stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.”
The above verses clearly depicts the mental condition of a person going through a panic attack: terrors of death, fear, trembling, horror, thoughts to flee away/ escape.
Isaiah 35: 4 say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."
Psalm 55:16,17 As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.
The psalmist here is ventilating all his pain, agony and intense fear in the presence of God, and not to humans through intense prayer. This is what we ought to do, instead of taking our stress and anxiety toward other humans and imparting panic to them; because God is our strength and an ever-present help in times of trouble.
A person going through a panic attack may initially find it difficult to pray, because of the heaviness in heart and therefore, they can seek the help of a close person to sit with them who will listen to all that the person has to say and just pray, without giving much instructions/ mere comfort. The thought that there’s at least one person who understands his/ her current situation will bring great relief and freedom to such people. After the person pours out everything in his/her heart, the one who listened all this while can now begin to pray with that person for long hours and the person who has been a victim of panic attack will be liberated by the Holy Spirit and he/she will move on to live a beautiful and productive life.
Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
God is a good God who can take our mess and convert it to a message for others and to liberate them from the same.
ANGER
Anger is a part of our emotions, but unhealthy/ unrighteous anger causes severe damage. Anger is our mind’s response toward something which we do not like. Anger can destroy relationships.
Ephesians 4:26, 27 “In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
When we harbour unhealthy anger for long, we’re giving space for the devil in our lives and particularly in our mind, which is the battlefield. Therefore, it's important to solve the issue that caused us to be angry at the earliest and to have control over our temperament. People who repeatedly express unhealthy anger should scrutinise the root cause and mostly it would be an ancestral trait passed on to you.
Genesis 4:5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favour. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Anger can affect different parts of our body, including the heart, brain and muscles and negative emotions even affect our appearance. People generally love to interact with people who have a pleasant and radiant face.
Exodus 32:19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.
Even though we have a great anointing and ministry in our lives, we can shatter those precious gifts we received from the Lord if we don’t keep our temperament in control.
Proverbs 16:32 Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.
Patience and self-control is the fruit of the Holy Spirit with which we can overcome anger which is often an unhealthy emotion.
Practical tip: The next time you’re in a situation that makes you angry; shift your attention from that particular topic/thought. Also, you could cool your mind and body by washing your face with cold water.
