This Can Be Your Story - Part 11

Joseph was born to a lineage that walked closely with God, and so did Joseph. Joseph was different from his 11 brothers. He didn’t walk in sin even when those around him did.
We too must live different lives from others, especially from those of the world. Our standard should not be to agree with the lie that the majority would say, instead it must be God’s standard .i.e. to stick to His Word which is the truth even if we are a minority.
We see the story of how Potipher’s wife entices Joseph to sin with her but he always stood his ground because of his fear of God. Potipher’s wife then tricked and lied to put the blame on Joseph and put him in jail by using his cloak as false evidence.
Even his brothers had tricked their father by dipping Joseph’s cloak in animal blood and saying he was dead. The enemy always uses false evidence against you.
Genesis 39:19-20 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
Now, Joseph was put in jail. There was no way for him to plead his case even though he was innocent. How you respond to injustice against you, decides your exaltation. Jesus on the cross blessed those who mistreated Him. He asked His Father to forgive them. Exaltation/Promotion comes from God, not from people. When we realise this, it changes our mindset.
The Bible clearly gives evidence that Joseph was never bitter when he faced these trials/mistreatments/ false accusations. He would have been hurt and pained.
Genesis 39:21-23 The LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
The Word says that God was with him and brought the favour of the guards upon him and made successful all the works of his hands. This was a repetition of what happened in Potipher’s house. If Joseph had been bitter or angry, God could not have used him. It is normal for us to be hurt but we must not take revenge. God says ‘Revenge is mine”. If God has given us a dream, He will fulfil it in our lives. We must depend on His grace and live in the fear of the Lord and not sin.
Circumstances do not affect the favour and blessings we carry. It is beyond that. Joseph was called ‘blessed’ even in jail. He was blessed even when he was a slave in Potipher’s house. When we pass the character/ goodness/ integrity test, God will promote us as He did Joseph.
Joseph did not fall for temptation because he feared God and knew that God would take care of him. This can be our story too.
