This Can Be Your Story - Part 21

The God who orchestrated Joseph’s life is the same God with whom we have a father-child relationship through Christ Jesus; and He is able and willing to bless us in the same manner, provided we cling to God and walk uprightly. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. We obtain lessons for life through the various Bible characters and we need to tune our lives accordingly. Never live a godless life; for the wages of sin is death.
We’re in Genesis 42 where it expounds Jacob sending his 10 sons to Egypt in order to buy grain and on reaching there, though Joseph recognized his brothers, they didn’t recognize him. However, Joseph did not reveal himself to them right away and instead said that they were spies, for which they replied they are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan. The youngest was with their father, and one is no more.
They were imprisoned for three days after which Joseph told them to leave one of their brothers in custody while the rest could go and take back grain to relieve the hunger of their households. They were then to bring their youngest brother to Joseph in order to prove that they were honest men, and not spies.
Joseph took Simeon from them and had him bound before their eyes. Then Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to return each man’s silver to his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. This order was carried out, and they loaded the grain on their donkeys and departed. At the place where they lodged for the night, one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of the sack. “My silver has been returned!” he said to his brothers. “It is here in my sack. Their hearts sank, and trembling, they turned to one another and said, “What is this that God has done to us?”
When they reached their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they described to him all that had happened to them and as they began emptying their sacks, there in each man’s sack was his bag of silver! And when they and their father saw the bags of silver, they were dismayed.
Joseph was a man of dignity. Though his brothers mistreated him and tried to ruin his life; Joseph did not repay for their wrong, instead he was liberal and generous toward them.
Genesis 42:36
Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my sons. Joseph is gone and Simeon is no more. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”
Attention! One lie can destroy a person’s entire life. Every lie originates from the devil and he is the father of lies. Jacob has been living all these years in a depressed mode believing the false proof that Joseph’s brothers brought to Jacob about his beloved son’s (Joseph) death. This is why the Word instructs us to be children of light and not to speak lies or be a false witness as the outcome is destructive.
Jacob in his depressed state had a very negative perspective toward life that everything was against him. He believed the lie his sons told about Joseph and though Simeon was just imprisoned, Jacob says, ‘Simeon is no more’. Do not treat yourself and your life based on the few negative incidents that may have occurred; instead be grounded in the truths and promises God says about you in His Word. If God is for you, who can stand against you?!
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Consider the two contradictory outlook - while Jacob says ‘everything is going against me’, Apostle Paul says ‘all things work for the good’.
Jacob was a man who loved God, feared God, offered sacrifices to God, walked in a covenantal relationship with God and even had a life changing encounter with God at Jabbok and grabbed his blessing from God. But in the current phase of his life, due to his sons’ wickedness, Jacob has a totally different perspective and says ‘everything is going against me’. Even if it may seem like everything is against you and that your prayers are unanswered, God works everything for the good of those who love Him.
God worked everything for good in Joseph’s life as well; the completion of which we read in Genesis 50. Joseph suffered for 13 years of his life - mistreated and ridiculed by his own family members, thrown into the cistern, sold as a slave to Egypt, imprisoned at Potiphar's house - all of which was contradictory to the two dreams he had. In spite of all this, in the invisible realm, God’s hand was at work in Joseph’s life to give him a glorious finish in life, where he became a blessing not for just a person or a family, but for nations. This can be your story!!!
You have a high call, a holy call and a heavenly call from God Most High. God is for you, and not against you; and He works everything for good. Meanwhile, guard your heart and get rid of all bitterness and revenge. Be willing to forgive and forget others’ grievances. Do a favour for those who harassed you. And God will bring a drastic change/shift in your life.
It was just another morning in the dungeon for Joseph, but Pharaoh’s men came in search of him - the man who interprets dreams; and he was quickly brought from the dungeon and after he shaved and changed his clothes, he stood before Pharaoh. Promotion comes from God! Be open for change and be prayerful; God is faithful and He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you. Even when you don’t feel like God is in your life, He is at work in your life. His plans are to prosper you, and not to harm you! Stay blessed.
