You can Swim against the tide
Nehemiah: 6:11 says, ‘But I said, "Should a man like me run away? Or should one like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!"’
Nehemiah was considered as one of the trusted confidantes of the King. He was in charge of ensuring that the King consumed food and drink devoid of any poison or contentment. He was considered one of the top officials in the Kingdom in a foreign land. One day he hears the news that the wall around Israel is torn down, and the temple is burnt down. On hearing this news, he prayed, fasted, and cried over this news for four months. Upon seeing Nehemiah’s sorrow, the King offered to release him from his duties to rebuild the walls and the city. Nehemiah was given permission to take time off from work, and all the provisions and amenities were provided to him to reach Israel. Once Nehemiah reached Israel, he mobilised the people in the area to commence the restoration process. As soon as he started the process, several issues started coming his way, and obstacles and challenges were strewn around in his path.
When we do anything that is different from the norm or for Godly causes, there is always an opposing force that exists. The task at hand was huge. Nehemiah was a butler and not a civil engineer, with very little know-how or tools to tackle this project. As he began work, several people opposed him; where people mocked him, ridiculed him, and insulted him. However, without paying heed to the offence, Nehemiah carries forward and hears the ridicule thrown at him. As he hears the threats, he responds by saying - should a man like me run away?
If you want to go forward in your life, you must face these challenges head-on. We have the Holy Spirit inside us, and as long as we have the Spirit inside us, we can swim against the current and face any problems that come our way. We are designed by God to swim against the current. Our eyes are designed to look forward, and our feet are designed to run ahead. God has designed us to get ahead in our lives and not walk back. Don’t waver, and don’t scramble when there is a challenge.
2 Timothy 3:12 says, ‘In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.’
Our God the Father created the heavens and the earth; he created everything that we see and breathe just by uttering his words. However, when Jesus came down to this world as a man, a mere mortal, he faced several challenges and was ridiculed, mocked, insulted, and threatened. His life on earth, while doing the work of his father and spreading the gospel, was one filled with persecution. Similarly, when you set out to do something good in your life, it is not necessary that everyone cheers you on or encourages you. Swimming against such discouragement and adversity is no easy feat and requires a lot of effort. When we set out for the Lord, people might ridicule us for our decisions, but it is important to swim against the current of ridicule or insults. When Paul travelled to preach the good news, he was beaten, jailed, mocked, and hurt by the people around him. It is important to walk forward trusting that if God has bestowed a purpose on you, know that he has also given you the strength and determination to go forward.
