Declaration Of The Praises Of God

Isaiah 61:3
and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
People generally dress specific to occasions. Uniforms for work, dress for weddings, formals for business occasions, etc. Different occasions require different dress codes.
In this verse, God promises a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. In the Jewish culture, they had a tradition of tearing their outer garment when they were in despair/mourning.
Job 16:15
I have sewed sackcloth over my skin and buried my brow in the dust.
Job was in a miserable condition as his children died, wife left him, his business was down, and all was spiralling in his life. We don't know if he had actually sewn sack cloth over his skin or whether it was to explain what he was going through; he was totally shattered and crushed on all sides. He had lost everything in his life, it was like a heap of ashes. In this situation, God promises a new garment!
A new garment is associated with a festival or with honouring a person, like Jacob gave his son, Joseph, a rainbow coat. It sets that person apart and on top. Such garments were given to show their appreciation towards a person.
We know that when a person is in a very bad situation, normally complaining comes out of him not praise. It is a thankful heart that produces words of praise from us.
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
We are all called to declare God’s praises for His works in our lives. We are chosen by Him for this! A person who is a King could not be a Priest in the Old Testament. A King in the Jewish culture was from David’s tribe (the tribe of Judah) and a Priest from the Levite tribe. In Christ Jesus, God made a blend of royalty and priesthood. Another person who experienced this together was Melchizedek who was the King of Salem and a Priest of God Most High (Genesis 14.18). All other priests in the Old Testament were only priests, not royalty (excluding David). However, those who are chosen to be God’s children are not called for this Old Testament priesthood, but we are called to be like Jesus- a royal priesthood!
All this is so that we can declare His praises!
Knowing this, we should take off our spirit of despair and put on thankfulness and gratitude and a garment of praises to God! There is an anointing of praise in the anointing that God poured on Jesus. We must release praise from our mouths even when we don’t feel like it. Paul and Silas praised and rejoiced in the Lord when they were imprisoned (Acts 16.25) and the prison doors opened.
Psalm 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
We need to activate our life with praises to God as we worship Him.
