Where Is God When I Suffer?

Corrie Ten Boom harboured Jews during the holocaust. She was eventually put in a concentration camp with her family and her sister was starved to death in front of her. In the midst of that, she said, God is good and His ways are above man’s ways. His love is steadfast.

In the midst of any cruelty, if our heart is right, we will be able to see the goodness of God. If our heart is not right, no matter how much we receive from the goodness of God, we will not be able to see it. 

Several children are dissatisfied, irrespective of all that they receive. This is because of their outlook. Their heart is not right and they develop an attitude of questioning everything. This is what happens in our relationship with God. We are mortal beings living on God’s mercy and grace. The enemy has done all the evil we see in the world  and  he is trying to separate God and man by trying to show God as responsible for evil.

All trees, plants, animals stand on and are rooted in the ground, in mud. But what proceeds from the trees is not mud but beautiful flowers and delicious fruits. It stands in mud but what comes out are fragrant flowers and delicious fruits. We need to learn from this. There is evil in this world but we can produce goodness, just like God. We can live a good life. 

People look at poverty, lack, crimes, wars, divisions and ask God why He does it? But in reality, does God do this? Man gives opportunity to evil, falling in the trap of the enemy and fighting amongst themselves, creating wars, destroying the human body. God has no part in this. The devil does this. God gives life, He doesn’t kill. Children die of starvation, that is due to the bad economy. The world is under the influence of the enemy but we tend to blame God. There is no evil in God and He does nothing to harm us. 

Several natural calamities are an after effect of man’s actions. Deforestation and messing with God’s creation are affecting nature and people blame God. Did God build dams, did God make bombs or nuclear reactors? All the smoke from the factories is affecting the Ozone layer. Did God tell us to do that? While progress and Science is needed, when we exploit nature, there is a reaction to our actions. God doesn't bring about all this but it is a consequence of man’s actions. 

But God in His infinite wisdom, knows the future and man’s actions and has spoken of it through His prophets. 

Luke 13:1,4
Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?

We see two incidents here. Pilate mingled the blood of people with the sacrifice. Did God do this? No.

The second one. The tower of Siloam fell and people died. Did God build this or demolish it? No.

God has given man freewill. We can either obey God, be obedient and live how He has called us to, according to His image and likeness or we can be like Eve who listened to the devil and live a life of suffering, sickness, curse, and death.

God says He has kept good and evil, life and death in front of us. We can choose what we want. It's in front of us. God did not create evil or curse. When man sinned, sickness, curse, suffering came into being.

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus comes to give us life and life in abundance.

Job 1:20
At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

Job lost everything but he worshipped the Lord. Despite everything, he worshipped God because God is good all the time.
