Clothed With Splendour & Majesty
This week, we are discussing the implications of Jesus coming to this world from Philippians 2:5-11, “the mystery of the incarnation of Jesus.”
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus gave up His godly privileges, an unlimited God limited Himself to a human form. But when we celebrate Christmas, we often do a ritualistic traditional celebration where Jesus is not present.
The Creator who created everything made himself nothing. Jesus came out of the eternal spiritual heavenly realm to a temporary physical earthly realm. This can be equated to a very wealthy man living in a slum area with the slum dwellers for 33 years which is a major portion of his life. Jesus, who was perfectly holy and sinless who had lived in a heavenly atmosphere where millions of angels worshipped Him, stepped down to an earthly realm to a sinful environment where a man and woman bathed him and took care of him in a stable in Bethlehem. He made Himself “NOTHING”.
His human body sweat and became tired. He lived among sinners and was counted a friend of sinners though He was holy, pure and blameless. It would not have been easy for Him as He hated sin. It is unthinkable for God to live as a man. He made Himself nothing .i.e. emptied Himself.
He was not a human but became a human being. He deliberately entered human history to fulfil the promise God gave mankind in Genesis 3.15. His garment was glory / light but He changed His dress.
God created man in the likeness and image of God. Jesus came in the likeness of man so that He may redeem man into the likeness and image of God that man had lost.
Psalm 104.1
“Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. 2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent.”
Hebrews 2.9
“But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
What Jesus did for us is amazing !! He is worthy of all our praise. We must be thankful for what He has done for us.
