Rest In Jesus
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart”
People are restless, even though God says that He will give them rest, because they do not go to Him for it. Even though salvation is freely available for all, not all are saved! Nothing happens in an automatic way. You need to accept Jesus as your saviour in your heart and confess it with your mouth to be saved.
In the same way, God is able to heal. But not everyone gets healed automatically, we need to walk into it by faith.
Similarly, people are restless even though God offers them rest and peace. For this, you need to go to Him. In the verse above, we see a part for us to do- Go to Jesus. The Bible tells us to draw near to God. Many people think they are not worthy to go near to God. But Jesus came down specifically for the sinners and the unworthy.
We also need to take up Jesus’ yoke. A yoke is a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart that they are to pull.
When we take up Jesus’ yoke this means we become connected to Him and can only go where He goes.
When people train these animals, they generally keep a senior animal and a young one together so that the senior one takes on more of the burden and leads the way. The young one just follows and learns. In the same way, when we take up His yoke, He takes over our burden and leads the way for us. We only need to let Him take control and follow Him.
The third thing we need to do is to learn from Jesus. This means we should become His disciple.
When we do this, Jesus gives us rest for our souls. He also gives us an easy and light yoke to carry. Thirdly, he gives us a light burden that we can manage.
Satan gives us unrest and heavy burdens. But Jesus gives us peace and rest and only gives us burdens that we can manage.
There are four types of rest that we should enjoy today:
This doesn’t mean laziness. Rest means an inward holiday that goes on forever. We become interested in life. It is an inner recreation and peace.
When we have Jesus, life becomes easy.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
We should not be yoked together with unbelievers because this takes us away from God. We need to be yoked together with Jesus.
When you start this life with Jesus, you will start to experience his rest and peace.
