The Lifter Of Your Head
We all need various stimulants in our lives. Oftentimes we need a push to go forward in life, a reason of sorts that will drive us forward. Sometimes we feel weary and tired, without a push. We need motivation or inspiration that will drive us to do things in our lives. You must have a sense of purpose and a drive to move forward in life, without an external push. So everyday, make it a priority to encourage someone in your life. Say a good word, share the gospel, help them to propel forward. As you encourage them, you will also be encouraged and motivated in your own life.
Leviticus 26:13 says, ‘ I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.’
When the Lord gave the commandments to Moses in Mount Sinai, he emphasised on the fact that ‘I am the Lord your God.’ When the Lord's people were saved out of Egypt, this is a statement that was constantly re-emphasised. Sometimes we see people who give us great testimonies, the very next day just crawling and squirming under depression. These fluctuations happen quickly and constantly to many. One minute their faith is strong, and unshakable and the next minute you see them buried in anxiety and deep melancholy. Therefore God reminds you, ‘I am the Lord your God.’ This is constantly mentioned in the Bible as a reminder to all. God reminds us of where we were and what he’s done for us and how he has taken us out of our Egypts. A reflection of this is seen in the New Testament, where when we are born again, we are saved from the depths of sin and from the clutches of Satan.
As the verse in Leviticus says, the bars were broken to enable us to walk with our heads held high. A person confined to the struggles of slavery, will always have their heads low, shoulders stooped and eyes looking at the ground. This is similar to what happens when you are in depression, your eyes never lifted above and you drop your shoulders low. It is as if something is weighing and pulling you down. So when God brought out the Israelites from Egypt, it was to enable them to hold their head high.
Psalm 3:3 says, ‘But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.’
Believe that God will enable you to hold your head high. We often keep our head low, when we are amidst sorrow, embarrassment, loss and such. But God will help us hold our heads high. When you keep your head low, you will see the carpet, the floor, your feet, the fallen angels and demonic spirits. When you stoop your shoulders and low down on yourself, your circumstances, these are the things that you see, everything and anything that has fallen.
Romans 16:20 says, ‘The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.’
Satan belongs under your feet. He has no place beside you nor does he have any power to be above you.
Psalm 34:5 says, ‘Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.’
If we look unto the Lord, our faces will shine and never be covered with shame.
Matthew 14:19 says, ‘And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.’
This incident took place during a sermon that Jesus delivered. Several people came to hear his words, and he continued sharing the word with him for several hours and days. After a while many felt hungry and tired. Jesus performed this miracle when a need arose to feed the people. Jesus took the 5 loaves of bread and the fishes, he looked up to heaven and thanked the Lord Almighty.
Psalms 121:1 says, ‘I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?’
We should always be looking up, trusting our Lord to provide, trusting that help comes from above.
John 11:41 says, ‘So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.’
This verse is set in the context of resurrecting Lazarus from the dead. As the stones were rolled away, Jesus looked up and thanked the Lord.
Acts 7:55 says, ‘But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.’
We can imagine the scene that describes the verse above. Stephen was stoned by the members of the Sanhedrin. Perhaps we can assume that while Stephen’s eyes were bleeding, his inner eyes revealed something beautiful and glorious, the image of Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Around Stephen were people who were stoning him, killing him, hurting him, but when he looked up above, he saw the Almighty, standing beside the right hand of God, waiting to greet him home for eternity.
God is raising your head today. Keep your eyes on God, do not be disheartened.
