The Mighty One Has Done Great Things
Over the last few days we discussed how our God can lift us from our pits. It could be our pits of sorrow, heartbreak, pain, depression and anything that wears us down. We can always look up to him for help, as he cares for us. There is no one seated above our Christ and so when he promises to lift us up, God says ‘I AM the truth’. To give comfort to the weary and a shoulder to cry on for all, our God comes down from the heavens and gives us his comfort. The Almighty Sovereign God humbles Himself and dwells among us.
God says in Matthew 11:29, ‘Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’
God's character is what we should try to mimic in our lives. He is gentle, humble and meek in heart. God wants to intervene in human affairs. You need to give him the space to intervene in your life. And if you do, he’ll definitely move in your life.
Luke 1 has two songs, and the first one comprises Mary's song and the other Zechariah's song. The first song is recited by Mary, as the unwed girl. The second song was recited by Zachariah the priest. Both experienced God’s presence in their lives.
Today, believe that there is a new song that is entering your life. Believe that God will give you a new song. And a new song is born out of new experiences, which means newer experiences are entering your life.
The literature style of the Bible can be classified into two, there is prose and poem. In the book of Genesis, in the chapter, we see God speaking in a poetic way. In the second chapter we see Adam speaking in a poetic way, thereby interspersing the prose with the poem. What is the difference between prose and poem? When God speaks through prose he is revealing His mind, but when God speaks through poem he is expressing his emotions, feelings and heart.
Here’s an example where God speaks in a poetic style. Genesis 1:27 says, ‘So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’
Adam also speaks in a poetic language in Genesis 2:23 says, ‘The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”’
If you notice, you’ll observe that this poetic language is used when describing the relationship between a man and a woman. Whenever a verse is revealed in a poetic form, know that it’s intended to showcase emotions and feelings. When you read through Genesis it starts off with prose and suddenly shifts to poetic lines when describing the creation of man and woman.
Let’s look at Mary’s song
Luke 1: 46-55 says, ‘46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
Mary was exalted when she humbled herself. If you bow down before the Lord, he will lift you up in his presence. Wherever we choose to be humble he raises us up. Wherever we choose to be proud, we will fall. Jesus humbled himself before the Lord and the more he did that, the more the Lord raised him. (Philippians 2. 5-11). He was risen to be seated at the right hand of God in heaven. If you are lying in the lowly depths, believe that God is making plans for our upliftment. All we have to do is humble ourselves in his presence.
Mary in the verses above says that all the generations going forward will call me blessed. The verse goes on to say that the Lord has done great things for me. Believe that God, the mighty one wants to do big things in your life.
The Lord’s eyes are scanning the whole earth to strengthen the righteous. He keenly looks for those who focus on him and places their trust in him. Mary was a humble spirit and God performed this huge miracle in her life. There are so many women facing difficulties in conceiving a child and to help them, there are several processes that have been created such as IVF, surrogacy etc. However Mary was a virgin girl, never married or linked with a man. The miracle that Mary was bestowed with, no one will ever witness that again. Those who fear him, will experience his grace and mercy, generation after generation. However, if there is ever pride in your heart, then there is bound to be a fall. He will raise up those who humble themselves and those who are mighty and proud will tumble and fall. We have seen many such characters in the Bible such as Nebuchadnezzar. He fell from the realms of glory and honour to eating grass like a cow and having hair all over his body like the feathers of an eagle.
God does not need a lot of time to change things in your life. Know that life can change in a flick. A person with luxury cars and houses can be dead in a minute. A poor man can win a lottery with the flick of a button. Mary is speaking volumes through her song. If you are ready to humble yourself, God is ready to lift you up. God will do big things in your life.
