ATM: Any Time Mercy
Yesterday we saw the introduction to the new series titled “Amazing Grace”. This message series aims to help people find spiritual freedom in their life and to reach a balanced view. In the Old Testament there was mercy but grace was not yet revealed.
John 1:17 says; For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
The full revelation of mercy and grace is through Jesus!
We read in Galatians 1:6-9 how Paul speaks in a very strong language to the Galatians. He was referring to the people turning away from the grace of God and turning to a different gospel. We should not forget that there is great freedom in Christ. Jesus is one who helps and forgives those drenched in sin and renews them.
If you take a look at the world today, how many people are truly enjoying the freedom in Christ? A lot of people do not find freedom from their guilty consciousness and condemnation. These days we are presented with a distorted version of the gospel with wrong teachings that was not part of Jesus' or the apostles’ teachings.
Gospel, originally a Greek word, was not used by many. The reason why it was not used much was because there was not a situation where the word ‘gospel’ needed to be used. Gospel is good news. In fact, it is too good to be true, it is unbelievably good news!
John 14:6 says; Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The only condition for freedom is for us to believe. Jesus has prepared everything for us. The route to heaven is already set out for us by Jesus. So don’t mix anything with the Word of God! It has to be the true Gospel and not a mixture of different teachings.
Hebrews 4:16 says; Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Today we are approaching the throne of grace through our faith, our prayers, our actions!
Imagine going to an ATM to withdraw cash. It is undoubtedly easier than going into the bank with a cheque for the cashier to withdraw it manually. An ATM has made life easier. Though the acronym stands for Automated Teller Machine, it is more like ‘Any Time Money’.
Similarly, the throne of grace works this way! We can receive mercy and grace from God by approaching the throne of grace with confidence. God’s throne of grace is our ATM (any time mercy)!
