Refiner's Fire & Launderer's Soap
Today we are going to read from Hebrews 1:9.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
Righteousness means right living or the right standing with God and man. Most believers living in this cut-throat world know that they are not living the right way. Yet, they continue to live in their own way rather than with God. A lot of people do not know the right way to live. Jesus showed us an example of right living. He lived a righteous life without deviating from the ways of the Father.
One most important character we need to have as believers is to love righteousness and hate wickedness. The secret behind Christ’s anointing, the Anointed One, was that He loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Just like that, we have been anointed with the oil of gladness. The right blissfulness, peacefulness and joyfulness can be found in those who hate iniquity and lead a righteous life.
Nehemiah 8:10-11 says (10) Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (11) The Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for this is a holy day. Do not grieve.”
Holy life is a jolly life!
Holy life is a joyful life!
A very important thing to remember is that all happy people are not holy people but all holy people are happy people. A holy life brings happiness.
Malachi 3:2-3 says (2) But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. (3) He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,
The Lord purifies each of us. God intervenes in our lives in many ways. Sometimes it is like a groom to his bride, sometimes it is like a father to his children. God has 2 faces; one of tenderness and the other of toughness. He is also a disciplinarian. He approaches in many different angles and ways. And one of those ways is the refiner’s fire as a purifier. He wants to purify us from inside out.
Jeremiah 13:23 says Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.
God refines our thoughts, actions, words and deeds. He looks at the inside and wants us to purify ourselves inwardly!
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
