Do You Want Prosperity & Success?
There is a lot of power in mediation. There are a lot of life renewal retreats, and transcendental retreats around us. There are gurus that focus on mediation and teach people to meditate. When I was a child, a priest often came to our school to help us meditate. When we were asked to close our eyes, we were expected to meditate on whatever he spoke about earlier.
What does the Bible talk about meditation? Does it have power and what is the expected outcome?
Philippians 4:8 says, ‘Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.’
Paul is asking us to meditate and to learn to meditate. When I hear the word meditation, I think of someone sitting with their eyes closed, sitting in an upright position without talking. This is the general idea that most people have about mediation.
However, the Bible talks about mediation a little differently. While the predominant idea of mediation is to empty your mind, the Biblical meaning of mediation is to fill your mouth and your mind with prayer and scriptures. We must fill our minds with prayer and say it out loud with our mouths.
An ordinary believer will go to church every Sunday and listen to the sermons preached by the Pastor of the church. Other days, they will read the word for sometime, pray for the list of things they are in need of and go off to their routine works. They might also partake in an evening prayer, where they read the Bible and go about the rest of their evening.
However, if you know how to meditate on the Word, you will see breakthroughs in your spiritual and your personal life.
Joshua 1:8 says, ‘Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.’
When Moses died, his eyes were still bright, his body was strong and to his last breath he lived a true warrior for God. He was one the greatest leaders in the Old Testament, the man who rescued an entire nation, the chosen people of God. God used Moses to plant his people from one nation to another. Moses has probably seen more miracles than anybody. He has seen miracles before his eyes at the palace of Pharaoh, the splitting of the Red Sea and so many more.
After Moses died, the ordained, mentored and imparted Joshua arose. The verse above showcases the conversation that transpired between Joshua and God, where God tells him to always ‘Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips’. The first 5 books of the Bible are written by Moses and we can assume that perhaps Joshua also helped him in the process. God asks Joshua to meditate on the Book of Law day and night.
God is expecting us to read the word everyday, meditate on it everyday and learn, so that we can utter the words in the law with our lips. The purpose of meditation is so that we are careful to do everything that is written in it. While many of us want to obey the word and live as per the commandment of Christ, it is not always possible. This is because we haven’t meditated on the word enough. It hasn’t ingrained in our thoughts and minds enough for us to utter it and practise it in our lives. It is only when we speak the word, does it become an integral part of our lives. When our minds are saturated by the Word of God, we are able to speak out the word and live accordingly which will eventually make us prosperous and successful.
There are success and life coaches everywhere. But do you want to win in life? If you do, keep this Book of the Law always on your lips and meditate on it day and night. Success of our lives is directly proportional to the daily mediation of the word which leads us to be successful and prosperous. When God spoke to Joshua about the mediation of the Word, he was 80 years old. He was the successor of Moses at the age of 80. Joshua was an aid and helper to Moses till that time. Joshua has seen several miracles in his life, and God is telling Joshua that even though he’s seen miracles and has been an aid to a mighty man of God, if he wants to continue to succeed and prosper in life, he has to meditate on the Book of Law and meditate on it day and night.
There are three things that are repeatedly being highlighted and they are, 1. Meditate on the Word - read the word and learn the Word everyday.
2. Speak the Word - mix your daily conversations with the Word of God.
3. Do the Word - do as the Word commands.
If you do these three things, you will enjoy prosperity and success in life. These are essentially the keys to success.
