The Distance Between You And God
We looked at the meaning of biblical meditation this week. It is completely different from normal meditation. Biblical meditation involves the individual to be filled with the Word of God and to be muttering and uttering His Words throughout the day. The Word is known as the ‘imperishable seed’ which we are supposed to keep close to us and within us. If we meditate the Word, speak the Word and practice the Word we are promised two things - success and prosperity.
What is meditation?
Isaiah 55:8-9 says (8)“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. (9) “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
There is a great distance or gap between God's thoughts and man’s thoughts. Meditation of the Word will reduce the distance between the thoughts of man and of God.
Joshua 1:8 says Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
God’s thoughts are holy, heavenly, high and elevated. Our thoughts are unholy, earthly, low and not perfect.
Colossians 3:1 says Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
The Bible contains the thoughts of God. So, we should meditate on it so that we can lift up our thoughts to be like that of God. When both are mixed, the human will give way to the divine. So, we will be more like Him! We were originally created in the image and likeness of God. It was His imagination put to life.
John 15:3 says You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
The Word of God has a purifying effect. So when we constantly listen and meditate on the Word of God, we are purifying ourselves with the Word and becoming more like God. We are cleaning our systems and ridding ourselves of all the viruses in our hardware and software. The Word of God is an anti-virus!
2 Peter 1:4 says Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
So, Biblical meditation involves our mind and the Holy Spirit to go hand in hand. And it is mixing our thoughts with God’s thoughts and thereby reducing the distance between the two. We need to participate/ receive impartation of His divine nature in our lives!
What is meditation?
- It is an activity of your soul with the help of the Holy Spirit. It is the joint venture between our mind and the Holy Spirit. For instance, let us take a look at a computer. The computer consists of the hardware and software. Similarly, our body is the hardware and our mind can be seen as the CPU and our belief systems in our mind is the software.
- It is mixing our thoughts with God’s thoughts.
