Keys To Open Heaven 1: Repentance

Matthew 3:13-17 says
(13) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. (14) But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
(15) Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
(16) As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. (17) And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

The shift in Jesus’ life came when he was 30. Till he reached that age, he was following his father’s profession and training to take up the trade as a carpenter. Just like Jesus, we are all candidates for a sudden change in our lives, there is an upcoming shift in our lives!
 
Philippians 2:13 says for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

The major shift in Jesus’ life came during the baptism ministry when his cousin, John the Baptist baptised Jesus.
 
Mark 1:10 says Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

2 Supernatural things took place here:

1. The dove of the Holy Spirit came down
2. The Word of God, His sound was heard

Declare: LET HEAVEN BE OPEN OVER ME!

Keys to Open Heaven:

1. REPENTANCE

In Acts 19 there was a prayer group that Peter approached. He asked if they have received the Holy Spirit in their lives. Following that he asked who’s baptism they received to which they responded “John’s baptism”. Peter says that the baptism by John is the baptism of repentance. The New Testament baptism is a baptism of faith and that is the baptism one ought to take.

Jesus received the baptism of repentance as well even though he had never sinned, he still took it. Jesus took this baptism of repentance because he wanted to identify himself with the sinner repenting though he was sinless, blemishless, he is the sacrificial lamb of God. But Jesus wanted to stand up for the sinners.
 
So we see here that the key to open heaven is through repentance. Even Jesus, who had nothing to repent about, set an example for all of us.

Leonard Ravenhill once said; “There are 2 kinds of people in the world; those dead to sin and those dead in sin.
 
Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 says For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.

Genesis 4:7 says If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Revelation 3:17-18 says (17) You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. (18) I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

So remember that the first key to open heaven is repentance!
