Your Faith Will Protect You Hebrews Chapter 11: Part 3
20 December, 2021
In Hebrews 11.1, we see the definition of faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11.2 is the illustration or testimony of the faith .i.e faith should be put to action. Faith without action is like a dead body (James chapter 2). Every one of the heroes of faith mentioned in this chapter has proved their faith through their actions.
Hebrews 11.3, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible”: Faith that exposes mysteries; we know by faith that God created the world.
God reveals the mysteries of nature to His children which a scientist may not understand. The spirit world is the reason behind the physical world. The spirit world is the foundation for everything. Our blessings lie in the spirit realm. In other words, faith unfolds mysteries of life.
Abel’s faith was a “giving a better offering faith” or a “worshipping/ honouring God Faith” or a “speaking faith” or a “life giving faith”. (Hebrews 11.4)
In Hebrews 11.5, we read about the faith of Enoch: “walking with God faith” or “pleasing God faith”. God praised Enoch’s faith as it pleased him.
In Hebrews 11.6, faith is emphasised ( But without faith it is impossible to please Him)
Hebrews 11.7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Noah’ faith is mind blowing.
He had a faith to undertake uncommon projects. He did something which was never done before and no one has done it after as well. It was a unique project. There was never a precedent before. No one had seen rain before nor built an Ark. The ground was watered by water below. God had separated the waters below from the waters above (vapour canopy). Man’s life span decreased after the vapour canopy came down as rain during Noah’s time. It was God’s judgement on man.
Noah demonstrated working faith.
Noah moved in “Holy Fear”. This fear made him take up the project of building an Ark that would save His family from God’s judgement which would destroy the entire world.
Real faith will always do something: He prepared an Ark
He condemned the world: He did not preach judgement. He only told them that a rain was coming that would destroy the world. He preached for 120 years about God’s righteousness. He did not preach condemnation. But for those who did not believe, they faced condemnation
James 2. 17-20 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
Noah’s Ark has three decks and were built according to the detailed plan given by God. However this Ark did not have certain things that normally any Ship or Boat would have :
It had no engine
There were no sails
It was not power generated
It had no Telescope or Binoculars
There was no map or compass to give them directions
There was no way in or out. God Himself closed the door. There was only a small window
There were no oars
He had no rudder to control the Ark or change directions.
There was no Anchor to stop at any Port
There were no lights
They were totally stress free as God was in total control of every aspect of the Ark and its journey. The unseen God was at the stern of the Ark. God took the Ark and anchored it perfectly to Mt Ararath.
Noah’s faith was to trust in God amidst the waters of judgement. He was protected by his faith in God
How long was Noah in this Ark ? 364 days i.e. for one year they lived under God’s protection
This Ark shows Jesus or the Church now. If we stay inside the ark, we will be safe.
Two factors that led the Ark was : (1) The wind (2) The current of the waters. Both indicate the Holy Spirit. We are called to be led by the Holy Spirit
It is upto us to have faith like Noah to do big projects and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 17.26-27 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
1 Peter 3. 20-21 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
2 Peter 2.5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly
It is God’s duty to protect us. He knows how to lead us and anchor us to the place He has planned for us. He expects us to live stress free by faith
