God Wants To Strengthen You Hebrews Chapter 12: Part 3

Hebrews 12: 12-17
This chapter deals with warnings to those who are probable to backslide and encouragement to those who have stuck to their call: “Move forward, Let’s go” etc.
Hebrews 12:12
Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.
Arms represent our actions and knees, our walk. The Believers were weakened in their christian work and walk (ministry). But God strengthens those who are weak. It’s the Holy Spirit who gives us power to do God’s ministry. ( Luke 24.49 , Acts 1.8).
Hebrews 12:13
“Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.
The Author was encouraging those who have fallen back due to weakness and disabilities to get ready for their next lap even as they are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses who have finished their race.
Hebrews 12:14
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
It is not humanly possible to live a life on earth without any offences or conflicts.
Romans 12.18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Although we desire to live at peace with everyone, it might not happen that way. We must try as far as possible to live in peace.
Secondly, we are asked to live in holiness so that we may see God.
Matthew 5.8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There must be a sanctification in all three parts of man who is a Tripartite being. Since God is holy, any unholiness affects our relationship with God.
God says “Be holy as I am holy”. In 2 Corinthians 6.17-18, God says, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
God wants his children to be like Him. For God, His people, the Israelites are special, they are separate from all worldliness. He doesn't desire them to mix with the wicked. ( psalm 1)
Hebrews 12:15
See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
It is possible to fall away from the grace of God. So we must be careful as bitter roots produce bitter fruits. We must not harbour unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred etc inside a fellowship and cause division.
Hebrews 12:16-17
See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.
Many live a life without the love of God and the fear of God. Esau lived such a life that he sold his birth right as the oldest son. Later he could not get it back. It was not that God did not forgive him but that certain things cannot be reversed. By the time Esau realised his mistake, Jacob had already received the blessings from their father which could not be taken back. This should not happen to any of us: if we reject God’s blessings, promises, gifts, eternal life etc  and are trapped in a life from which we cannot come out, we will lose everything.
