Grace Be With You Hebrews 13 (Part 4)

8 January, 2022

Hebrews 13:17
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

Everyone should be submissive  to their leaders as all earthly authority is derived from God. We  should all submit to our God appointed leaders. Often conflicts occur within the congregation when people fail to submit to their spiritual leaders .

Hebrews 13 :18-19
18 Pray for us.We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honourably in every way. 19 I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.

It is of great importance that the believers should pray for their leaders. A similar sentiment is found in the following verses.

Colossians 4:2-4
Devote yourselves to prayer,being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door(
for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should

In Acts 12 we see how the believers are sitting in the presence of God praying for Peter's deliverance from jail and how this was absent for James and he was martyred.  The practice of praying for the leader's was triggered then. There is great   importance in prayer  for any leader. Here the author of Hebrews is earnestly  requesting prayer for him to reach his destination.

Hebrews 13:20
Now may the God of peace,who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep

 Numbers 6: 23-27
Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them:
24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lifts up His countenance upon you,and gives you peace.” ’
 Here we see Aaronic blessing. This is the duty of the most high priest to put his hand and bless the crowd.

One job of priests was to bless the people of God.

Revelation 13 :8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, all whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Ephesians 1:4
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love

2 Timothy 1:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

In all the above quoted scripture  we  see   the eternal blood covenant that was established from the beginning of creation.

Hebrews 13:22-25
I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.You should know that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom I shall see you if he comes soon.Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who come from Italy send you greetings.Grace be with all of you.

The last few verses  tell us the  author  still has a lot more to write but he is not doing it. In the end he delivers the good news about Timothy, he has been released  from prison. He also mentions Italy that clues us in  as to  where this book is being written from. Finally he says ' Grace be with you all '. A very Pauline blessing.
