Keys To Open Heaven 3: Humility
Matthew 11:29 says Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
We all learn things from our parents first, then we learn from our siblings and other family members. We learn how to brush, how to eat, general manners, etc. When we come into the world, our brain is blank, there is nothing in it. Whatever goes into this blank slate or you can even compare it with an empty hard drive, all the stored information is what makes human life possible. Most of the time even without our knowledge we end up boasting, bragging, being jealous, etc.
Jesus says that we should learn from him. We should learn gentleness and humility. And this will bring rest and let us be at peace in our lives. This rest only comes from Jesus. The outward showcase of humility does not matter for He looks into our hearts! The best examples of humility can be seen in the life of Jesus himself.
When Jesus was 12 and he was in the synagogue amongst great teachers and priests, his parents were on the lookout for him. Upon finding him, they interrogated him asking why he was still there. To this Jesus told them that he ought to remain in the Father’s house. Then we see Jesus surrender and obey his earthly parents.
This also happened during the time of baptism. John the Baptist was baptising sinners and those in need of salvation. Jesus approached John as clean and blameless as He is, for baptism. He chose to take baptism with sinners and others in the crowd. He humbled himself and did not ask for recognition or glory. He did not cry out for attention rather he fit in with the people. So why did Jesus do all this? It was because He was setting an example for us!
Satan lifted himself up and Jesus humbled himself!
Arrogant and proud people will not take baptism. But Jesus is someone who identifies himself with the crowd of sinners and stands with them.
Philippians 2:5-11 says;
(5) In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
(6) Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
(7) rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness.
(8) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
(9) Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
(10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
(11) and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The humility of Jesus opened heaven up for him, that is how he went from Jesus to receiving the name Christ! You can read Ephesians 1:20-23 for better understanding!
